AI you do not control for retards you do not control

Which incentives do AI providers such as Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Baidu have for offering you the best possible available tool?
They are indeed inclined to try and offer the best product possible, so that they can control the bigger possible share of paying customers; but at what point do their returns diminish?
I say they’re possibly more inclined to offer you the worse model possible at the highest possible price that gives enough okay results to keep you paying.
And with “keep you paying” I don’t really mean you in particolar, I mean the average internet user: take the dumbest person you know and set them as the exact center of the IQ distribution gaussian curve.
This has happened to search engines, electronic devices, “professional” software, tech in general, products in general.
Quality degradation is a necessary byproduct of the supply-demand model, on a long enough timespan all things have to be just good enough.
Creating, mantaining, running your own stuff prevents this.
